ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Tarrytown, New York, Heather Chontos is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Marvão, Portugal. Her practice spans painting, sculpture and textiles, with a particular focus on abstract works characterised by bold colour, organic forms and expressive mark-making.
Chontos works intuitively and impulsively, drawing inspiration from the landscape surrounding her home and studio in rural Portugal. She frequently works on unconventional and found surfaces including antique linen, canvas, wood, paper, furniture and other discarded materials, treating their existing textures, marks and patinas as part of the work.
Her paintings are developed through layers of paint and additional materials, often incorporating stitching, paper and other elements to create tactile, relief-like surfaces. She uses unconventional tools and processes to draw, scratch and build up the surface, creating works that combine colour, gesture, texture and materiality. Chontos received a BA in Art History from the University College London, and has exhibited widely with shows in New Jersey, Florida, Maine, Montana, California, Berlin, Brescia, Barcelona, Namur, London, Paris, and New York.
Large earthenware bottle vase by ceramicist Joshua Williams. Trained traditionally at Whichford Pottery, Williams creates functional earthenware inspired by local landscapes and traditional slipware. The generous bulbous form features small loop handles beneath the neck, reminiscent of historic storage flagons and traditional European olive oil jars. Finished in an amber glaze with expressive splashed slip decoration. Uniquely fired with shells, which create distinctive marks and variations in the glaze.

ABOUT THE MAKER
Joshua Williams is a studio potter working in Galloway, Scotland, specialising in functional kitchenware rooted in traditional pottery techniques. His practice is guided by the belief that studio pottery can elevate everyday rituals through thoughtfully crafted domestic objects.
Williams produces high-fired functional earthenware characterised by strong, vital forms and restrained yet expressive decoration. His palette centres on dark green, honey-gold, and cream glazes, with textured surfaces that create organic variations in tone and finish across each piece.
A key aspect of his work is the incorporation of locally sourced materials and instinctive decorative methods, allowing unpredictability and spontaneity to become part of the making process. This approach ensures that every pot carries its own distinct character while remaining practical for daily use.
Danish studio pottery table lamp by Axella, made from stoneware with an earthy, brutalist aesthetic characteristic of 1970s Scandinavian studio pottery. Finished in a reactive glaze with natural transitions between light and dark earthy tones, with circular motifs to the base. Designed by Jette Hellerøe, designer and potter, for Axella. Stamped Axella to the base. Newly wired with black fabric flex and a UK plug. PAT tested.
