Sacha Delabre
Sacha Delabre is a French glass artist whose practice blends traditional Venetian glassblowing techniques with contemporary humor, pop culture, and sculptural experimentation. Raised on an apple farm in the French Alps, Delabre first trained in cabinet making before moving to northeast England, where he worked for Antony Gormley and studied at Newcastle College.
His introduction to ceramics during an Art Foundation course eventually led him to study Glass and Ceramics at University of Sunderland. While completing his BA, Delabre became deeply committed to glassblowing, developing a practice rooted in technical precision and expressive experimentation.
After graduating, he taught beginner glassmaking at The Glass Hub before joining the studio of renowned glass artists Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg. There, he refined both hot and cold glass techniques, including Swedish overlay, incalmo processes, and intricate Italian cutting methods.
Delabre’s work combines comedy, poetry, street culture, and pop-art influences. Through playful and often subversive stemware and sculptural objects, he aims to challenge expectations of traditional glassmaking while maintaining a high level of craftsmanship and technical mastery.
